About The Position

The position involves providing emergency medical treatment to injured, sick, or incapacitated individuals, operating emergency medical vehicles, and performing various medical procedures under general supervision. The role also includes responsibilities as a Field Training Officer and Paramedic Instructor, focusing on training and monitoring new hires and conducting educational courses.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a paramedic training course approved by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure.
  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic in the State of Kentucky.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, physical examination, and polygraph test.
  • Must be vaccinated for hepatitis B or provide evidence of immunity.
  • Must work a varied schedule.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a CPR Instructor in Basic Life Support by the American Heart Association (or obtain within one year).
  • Certification as an EMS Instructor, Level II in Kentucky (or obtain within one year).
  • Certification as an EMS Instructor, Level III in Kentucky (or obtain within one year).

Responsibilities

  • Provides emergency medical treatment including injections of drugs and intravenous fluids.
  • Operates an emergency medical vehicle.
  • Lifts, carries, and transports injured or sick persons to medical facilities.
  • Restores and stabilizes heart rhythm on pulseless, nonbreathing patients.
  • Monitors cardiac patients using an electrocardiograph machine.
  • Administers injections of medications according to established protocols.
  • Initiates intravenous fluids to administer medications or replace fluids.
  • Performs endotracheal intubation to open airways and ventilate patients.
  • Inflates pneumatic anti-shock garments to improve blood circulation.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient conditions to a physician.
  • Stabilizes, immobilizes, lifts, and moves victims from accident scenes.
  • Communicates with medical personnel to obtain treatment instructions.
  • Assists in preparing and developing training programs and materials.
  • Conducts training programs and provides technical assistance regarding medical treatment and protocols.
  • Monitors the work and progress of new hires and trainees.
  • Ensures ambulances are stocked, cleaned, and paperwork is completed timely.
  • Coordinates and teaches various EMT and CPR courses.
