About The Position

The EMS/ED MOUD Navigator helps patient's access evidence-based treatment for opioid use disorders (OUD) and substance use disorder (SUD) with a focus on low-threshold access to medication assisted treatment (MAT) and harm reduction. Navigators conduct outreach and identification of OUD and/or SUD patients, conduct brief initial assessments; such as: COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale) and NIDA (National Institue on Drug Abuse) Screening Tools and Scores. Navigators introduce patients to MAT programs and services, facilitates appointments at outpatient MAT clinics, serves as a resource and coach for their clients, and advocates for a culture of change within the hospital. They also assist with access to other services such as; behavioral health services, primary care, and residential treatment facilities. The EMS/ED MOUD Navigator will also assist in collecting monthly and quarterly data on OUD and/or SUD patients arriving to the Emergency Department by Emergency Medical Services. Works closely with the Department of Emergency Medicine Medical Director of Pain Management, Addiction Services, and the Mobile Intensive Care Unit EMS Medical Director, Director, and Clinical Manager.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree preferred
  • Will consider 2-3 years prior experience as a peer recovery specialist in lieu of an associate degree.
