About The Position

Join the dedicated team of professionals of the Department of Safety and Emergency Services in the division of EMS & Fire Administration. This position is responsible for ensuring that all the stakeholders in the Pinellas County EMS system have and can maintain their credentials and certifications. These stakeholders include all paramedics and EMTs working with in the Pinellas County EMS system for Sunstar and the 18 municipal fire departments and independent fire districts. This position also coordinates the scheduling of instructors for Continuing Medical Education and ensures the availability and suitability of training sites to meet the requisite number of classes. Finally, they will process all applications for wheelchair transportation and advanced life support requests for Certificates of Public Convenience and necessity (COPCN). This position is part of a team and will be expected to work closely with other managers and coordinators to ensure compliance with the ambulance contract and the agreements with the other first responder agencies of the Pinellas County EMS system. This Contract Administration Coordinator (EMS Credentialing Coordinator) position is located at: 12490 Ulmerton Road, Largo, FL 33778. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5 p.m. Must pass a Level 2 CJIS background check.

Requirements

  • Responsible experience in an EMS system, compliance, contract administration, or health care administration.
  • Business, public administration, health care administration, or a related field.
  • 6+ years’ experience as described above; or
  • Associate’s degree and 4+ years of experience as described above; or
  • Bachelor’s degree 2+ years of experience as described above; or
  • Master or higher-level degree and some experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations controlling budgetary, fiscal, and contract procedures of County government.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of automated information systems, office procedures, and data processing.
  • Knowledge of health care including integrated health care service delivery.
  • Skill in interfacing effectively in a complex and dynamic work environment, verbally and in writing, with contractors, consultants, employees, other departments.
  • Skill in good listening and communications.
  • Skill to prepare clear and comprehensive technical reports, recommendations, and proposals, verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in preparing and monitoring complex, technical financial reports.
  • Skill in reading and comprehending technical specifications, laws, and codes as they relate to contract administration.
  • Ability to use small office equipment, computers, and highly technical computer applications.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a highly collaborative and proactive manner with direct involvement with partners and collaborators.
  • Ability to work independently on complex tasks and non-routine matters.

Responsibilities

  • EMS Credentialing Coordinator is part of Clinical Services and is responsible for ensuring that all new EMT and Medics have the proper credentials.
  • Administers the training capstone to new EMT and Medics.
  • Utilizes Target Solutions to track and assign training, and to distribute other important communications to department employees and clinicians (EMT’s, Medics, Nurses and Doctors).
  • Maintains credentials for approximately 80 instructors and ensures they meet the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) guidelines.
  • Coordinates the continuing medical education with the 15 training sites countywide and schedules instructors for up to 180 monthly classes. Conducts random visits to ensure compliance with NAEMT standards.
  • Member of the county EMS Training Group to develop a coordinated training plan for the county.
  • Is the back up for the Quality Assurance Coordinator and helps collect information requested by medical director in order to review incidents.
  • Administers the Continuing Medical Education training annual budget utilizing a Pcard and the Purchase Order process.
  • Processes the applications for all wheelchair transportation (WCT) and advance life support (ALS) requests for Certificates of Public Convenience and Necessity (COPCN). Reviews applications for proper insurance, conducts background investigations on drivers and conducts inspection on vehicles.
