St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking an EMS Billing Technician for our well-established Fire Rescue Department whose headquarters are located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida The St. Johns County Fire Rescue Administrative Division is responsible for the support of the operations and management of Fire Rescue Budgets, Finance, Policy Management, EMS Billing and Project Management. Employees work in a team-oriented environment in a variety of situations with two primary goals in mind: to provide a fire safe environment for our citizens and visitors and to provide quality customer service while working to support Fire Rescue. The newly selected EMS Billing Technician will be responsible for conducting Ambulance Billing, coding, collections working in coordination with the EMS Billing Manager and EMS Billing Team, multiple Fire Rescue Sections, and communicating with citizens. The ideal EMS Billing Technician candidate must possess St. Johns County’s core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness and must work well in a collaborative team environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Ability to be bonded.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
  • Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
  • Must be able to operate a computer.
  • Knowledge of general mathematical principles.
  • Knowledge of department billing processes.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skill in the delivery of customer services.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to questions from the general public regarding EMS billing policies and procedures.
  • Posts payments to patient accounts.
  • Prepares daily bank deposits.
  • Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance.
  • Downloads and balances electronic Medicare files; bills appropriate secondary insurance providers.
  • Downloads monthly electronic remittances for all Veterans Administration services; posts to patient accounts.
  • Balances credit card machine daily.
  • Enters insurance information to patient accounts.
  • Scans documents.
  • Processes attorney records requests.
  • Maintains a full-time presence on the job.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
