About The Position

This position reports to the on-duty Operations Supervisor and/or the Director of Operations. The Assistant Field Supervisor is the lead Paramedic (or EMT) on the ambulance shift trained to administer prompt and efficient pre-hospital and Inter-Facility Transportation care to the patient. In addition, the Assistant Field Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Operations Supervisor with daily department operations, will serve as the lead training officer of the shift, and will function as the Shift Supervisor in the absence of the Operations Supervisor. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings with the on-duty Operations Supervisor or Manager. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Utilizes a wide range of lifesaving / life supporting equipment, safety gear, siren, medical instruments and supplies. Secondary responsibilities would be supervisory duties conducted during the shift. Monitors and initiates radio communications with Communications center, hospital personnel and other public safety agencies to receive and to transmit instructions involving patient care. Provides instructions and mentoring to field employees and bystanders in the use of first aid equipment. Assists with the inspection and maintenance of emergency vehicles and the auditing of daily supply and equipment inventory; restocks equipment in preparation for subsequent medical responses and shifts. In the absence of the Field Operations Supervisor the Assistant Field Supervisor may assist and reviews, prepares and/or submits various documents including daily schedules, daily logs, vehicle maintenance logs, patient treatment and insurance records, supply requisitions, inventory lists, check sheets, incident reports, memos and correspondence and other important documentation. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate on-duty Operations Supervisor, co-workers and subordinates, other MedFleet staff, law enforcement personnel, and Fire/EMS department personnel Assistant Field Supervisor will be the point of contact for the FTO’s and will assist the Clinical and Operations Manager with additional training. Assistant Field Supervisor will sit on at least one steering committee (i.e., Quality Council, etc.). Assistant Field Supervisor will act as Field Supervisor for their shift anytime a regular supervisor is not on duty. The Assistant Field Supervisor may assist in the new hire academy and conduct classes that he or she is certified to be an instructor for.

Requirements

  • Current Florida EMT or Paramedic certification
  • Current BLS & ACLS (Paramedic) Certification
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver license upon offer of employment.
  • Minimum 2 years of pre-hospital, interfacility, or critical care experience as an EMT or Paramedic
  • Excellent communication and customer service
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and medical agencies to provide the highest level of patient care.
  • Ability to read and interpret all required documents and write required reports and correspondence.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisor or Field Training Officer experience
  • Critical Care Paramedic training experience and/or certification
  • CPI Certification
  • Accident investigation and OSHA training (or within 6 months of promotion)
  • Quality management experience (medical and/or non-medical)
  • AS Degree in EMS or equivalent experience
  • Current Instructor Certifications (ACLS, BLS, PALS, PHTLS, etc.)
