About The Position

The EMS Academy program provides entry-level training for individuals aspiring to become emergency medical technicians (EMTs) at HEMSI. This program prepares students for the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) examination and ensures they understand HEMSI-specific clinical policies and procedures. Successful completion of the program is essential for obtaining State of Alabama EMT licensure and is a prerequisite for advancing to higher levels of EMT education.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Ability to obtain State of Alabama EMSP License as EMT
• Ability to obtain Healthcare Provider CPR Certification
• Ability to obtain EVOC certification once employed/promoted
• Valid and current driver's license
• Mathematical skills to perform basic calculations

Responsibilities

• Successfully complete EMT course academic and clinical education requirements
• Give full attention to lecturers and preceptors in all phases of training
• Observe all safety and security procedures during vehicle and incident operations
• Report to class on time and maintain acceptable attendance
• Take direction from preceptors at clinical education sites
• Provide excellent customer service to patients and family members
• Communicate with hospital or other agency personnel to relay information about patients
• Follow program uniform and appearance standards
• Maintain up-to-date credentials as required by program administration
• Adhere to company policies, procedures, and professional standards
• Maintain a professional demeanor in accordance with the expectations of a public safety employee
• Pass a physical abilities test
• Maintain insurable driving status
• Sign student agreement regarding National Registry certification and employment conditions
