About The Position

The Employment Transition Specialist-Instructor is responsible for implementing pre-employment transition instruction for high school students with disabilities, focusing on job exploration, workplace readiness, self-advocacy, and work-based learning experiences. This role involves collaboration with students, families, vocational rehabilitation counselors, and educational representatives to enhance employment transition opportunities.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Special Education, Psychology, Human Services, or related field, plus 1 year of related experience, or a High School Diploma/GED with at least 3 years of experience in teaching or human services.
  • Experience developing partnerships with employers or postsecondary educational institutions preferred.
  • Annual Criminal Background check and other clearances as required.
  • Valid NC driver's license and access to reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in a second language (ASL or Spanish) preferred.
  • Experience in public speaking, training, or teaching in a group setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct engaging group sessions covering Pre-Employment Transition Services for high school students with disabilities.
  • Provide Workplace Readiness Training to identify and develop strategies for removing barriers to employment.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with partner agencies, school personnel, and businesses to enhance employment transition opportunities.
  • Locate and provide work-based learning opportunities for students, including paid internships and on-site training.
  • Complete monthly billing reports, participant reports, and case notes accurately and timely.
  • Be aware of and respond to specific needs of students, including mental health and personal safety.
  • Conduct tours and informational interviews with employers and educational programs.
  • Maintain records of students served and outcomes in a client tracking database.
  • Submit required payment system forms in an approved format.
  • Attend periodic reviews and meetings with the Division and/or school system.
  • Provide job coaching at community work sites.
  • Complete satisfaction surveys for families, students, and employers.
  • Transport students on tours of employment and educational settings.
