Join the Payroll and Employment Services team within the MAPS office at Colorado School of Mines (CSM) and play a vital role in supporting our campus community and off-campus partners. As an Employment Technician (Accounting Technician III), you'll gain hands-on experience with employment and payroll transactions, learning to navigate both standard and complex situations. This entry-level position is perfect for someone eager to build a strong foundation in HR and payroll processes while contributing to process improvements and delivering outstanding service. Please Note:  This position may be eligible for hybrid work, following the completion of a training period. All hybrid work arrangements are subject to approval and may be revoked based on performance and business need. Requirements

  • Strong commitment to customer service and compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of HR, employment practices, and payroll.
  • Interest in technology and automation for process efficiency.
  • Ability to collaborate and share knowledge effectively.
  • Analytical mindset with a focus on metrics and continuous improvement.
  • Problem-solving skills for complex issues with broader implications.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position, which included work with with HR/payroll systems.
  • A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to three (3) years

Nice To Haves

  • Prior relevant state experience
  • Workday experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office products (office, excel, word, teams, etc.).
  • Ability to work efficiently in a Human Resources Management System (HRMS).

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full life cycle of employment and payroll data for all CSM employees (faculty, staff, and students).
  • Ensure compliance and accuracy when processing new hires in Workday (HCM/Payroll System).
  • Maintain accurate records for payroll and benefits administration.
  • Collaborate in meetings related to Employment Services, Payroll Operations, and HR projects.
  • Monitor compliance requirements and communicate areas of concern.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance customer service.
  • Complete audits accurately and on time.
  • Stay informed about campus employment needs to ensure exceptional service delivery.
  • Analyze processes to identify efficiency opportunities and drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop metrics to measure service levels, performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Use data analysis to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Contribute to a positive, productive team environment.
