Volunteers of America Western Washington is officially a designated CARE trauma informed organization. The Employment Specialist provides employment-focused case management and supportive services to Workforce participants, Veterans, and community members seeking employment. This position recruit’s trainees, assists individuals in overcoming barriers to employment, provides referrals to Workforce and training programs, and delivers job placement and retention services. The Employment Support Specialist promotes stability, self-sufficiency, and long-term employment success through individualized, client-centered services.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in human services, or related field preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • Experience providing employment services, vocational support, or Supported Employment preferred.
  • Experience working with Workforce participants, Veterans, or individuals facing multiple barriers to employment strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and motivational interviewing skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with employers and community partners.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Foundational Community Supports (FCS) program is a plus; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and engage Workforce trainees and community members seeking employment services.
  • Serve as the Employment Case Manager for Workforce program participants.
  • Conduct intake assessments to identify strengths, barriers, employment history, and career goals.
  • Develop individualized employment plans based on client choice and Supported Employment best practices.
  • Provide referrals to the Workforce program and other training opportunities.
  • Deliver job readiness services including resume development, job search assistance, application support, and interview preparation.
  • Provide job coaching and ongoing workplace support to promote job retention and advancement.
  • Assist clients in overcoming employment barriers by connecting them to transportation, clothing, documentation, childcare, and other supports.
  • Provide general supportive employment services to community members outside of the Workforce program as capacity allows.
  • Maintain regular contact with clients and provide time-unlimited follow-along support.
  • Build relationships with local employers to identify job opportunities for participants.
  • Match clients with competitive employment opportunities aligned with their goals and skills.
  • Support clients during onboarding and initial employment transition.
  • Advocate for reasonable workplace accommodations when appropriate.
