About The Position

The Employment Specialist at Larkin Street Youth Services plays a crucial role in supporting the employment and education needs of young adults experiencing homelessness. This position involves working closely with clients to enhance their job readiness through various training programs, including resume building and interviewing skills. The Employment Specialist collaborates with other programs to ensure comprehensive support for clients, tracking their progress and maintaining communication with employers and case managers.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Experience in social services and/or direct-service
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques

  • Experience working in drop-in services, shelter, transitional, and/or permanent supportive housing programs
  • Experience serving Transitional Aged Youth (TAY), aged 18 to 25

Responsibilities

  • Support the interviewing and assessing of clients for Employment and Educational needs.
  • Participate in Monthly Larkin Street Academy Graduations, collaborating with other workforce development, education, and Youth Force programs.
  • Assist clients in job search, securing, and retaining employment.
  • Track clients' progress in the workplace through regular communication with employment supervisors and housing case managers, maintaining up-to-date records of job retention.
  • Implement relationship-building strategies with employers including presentations, special events, employer acknowledgment, and networking.
  • Assist in the design of promotional materials targeting potential employers, homeless youth, and social service agencies.
  • Meet regularly with clients' case managers/advocates to discuss client progress.
  • Fulfill reporting requirements as designated by Employment/Education Services Department.
  • Administer Larkin Street Academy assessments and Education surveys.
  • Identify and outreach to agencies that serve youth in need of education and employment services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
