About The Position

Employment Specialist plays a key role in helping individuals with disabilities achieve meaningful, competitive employment. This position blends career counseling, employer engagement, coaching, and community partnerships to ensure job seekers gain the skills, confidence, and support needed to thrive in the workplace. As a vital member of the TNC Community team, you will act as a bridge between job seekers and local employersexpanding inclusive hiring opportunities, fostering independence, and promoting Employment First principles across the community. This is a deeply rewarding role for someone passionate about advocacy, workforce development, and creating real pathways to success.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Human Services, Social Work, Counseling, Education, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong communication, teaching, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple cases while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, or diverse support needs strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of disability inclusion, ADA guidelines, workplace accommodations, and employment law.
  • Background in vocational rehabilitation, workforce development, community outreach, mentoring, or social services is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assess participants strengths, interests, employment history, and long-term career goals.
  • Develop personalized employment plans and provide ongoing job coaching.
  • Support job seekers with resume building, interview preparation, job search strategies, and workplace-readiness skills.
  • Facilitate training on workplace expectations, communication, social skills, and self-advocacy.
  • Conduct outreach to local employers to promote inclusive hiring practices and build strong workforce partnerships.
  • Match participants with suitable job opportunities and provide follow-up support to ensure job retention and success.
  • Serve as a resource for employers on disability awareness, accommodations, and workplace supports.
  • Foster collaboration with schools, families, vocational partners, and community agencies.
  • Maintain accurate case records, tracking participant progress, job placements, and employer contacts.
  • Monitor success metrics and contribute to program improvement efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, workplace rights, and accommodation practices.
  • Promote competitive, integrated employment as the preferred outcome for all individuals.
  • Provide on-the-job coaching, problem-solving, and mentoring to support long-term success.
  • Advocate for policies and practices that advance workplace inclusion and Employment First values.
