Position Summary: The Employment Specialist / Job Coach provides direct employment services and program support within the Assisted Competitive Employment (ACE) program in accordance with DOHMH standards and supported employment best practices. The role also includes reviewing and approving program documentation, supporting compliance with DOHMH ACE guidelines, and conducting community outreach to expand referral sources. The Employment Specialist is responsible for job development, employer engagement, and individualized employment supports for ACE participants across their assigned boroughs. The Employment Specialist ensures high-quality service delivery, regulatory compliance, and strong employment outcomes. This position also provides oversight assistance to the Program Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing vocational services to individuals with disabilities, mental health conditions, or other barriers to employment.
  • Demonstrated experience in competitive employment settings.
  • Knowledge of employer expectations, workplace behaviors, and performance standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ACE or supported employment programs preferred.
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Match job openings to ACE participants based on skills, interests, work history, and career goals.
  • Conduct employment assessments to identify strengths, vocational interests, and barriers to employment.
  • Support participants with resume development, interview preparation, mock interviews, and job applications.
  • Recommend and coordinate training opportunities aligned with participants’ career goals.
  • Provide job coaching and follow-along supports to promote job retention and workplace success.
  • Monitor job placements, job retention, and employment outcomes in accordance with DOHMH ACE requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers across assigned boroughs.
  • Work with employers to understand workforce needs, performance expectations, and workplace culture.
  • Identify and cultivate competitive employment opportunities in integrated community settings.
  • Advocate for appropriate job matches and workplace accommodations when needed.
  • Meet weekly with the Program Director or supervisor to review caseloads, outcomes, and barriers to employment.
  • Support performance improvement, training, and corrective action when necessary.
  • Review, revise, and approve all ACE employment documentation prior to submission.
  • Ensure employment assessments, service plans, progress notes, and outcome reports meet DOHMH and ACE standards.
  • Monitor documentation for accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support preparation for DOHMH audits, contract monitoring, and site visits.
  • Conduct community outreach to increase ACE referrals.
  • Develop relationships with hospitals, clinics, shelters, and community-based organizations.
  • Represent the ACE program at meetings, provider forums, and community events.
  • Promote ACE services to referral sources and stakeholders.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, supervision, and case conferences.
  • Communicate clearly with program leadership and staff regarding service delivery, outcomes, and compliance.
  • Coordinate field-based work, employer visits, and participant appointments.
  • Maintain accurate schedules, activity logs, and reports.
  • Knowledge of workforce development, supported employment, and ACE program requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple participants and employer relationships.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work respectfully with participants, employers, and government partners.
  • Ability to serve as a professional role model to employment staff.
