About The Position

The Employment Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting job seekers in their journey towards employment. This position involves actively recruiting potential job seekers for enrollment in various programs offered by Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette. The Employment Specialist is responsible for engaging with program participants to establish trusting and collaborative relationships, which are essential for effective support and guidance. The role requires assessing participants' education, work experience, skills, qualifications, and job interests to tailor the assistance provided to each individual. In addition to recruitment and assessment, the Employment Specialist identifies barriers that may hinder participants' employability and provides them with job leads and skill training information. A key aspect of the job is matching program participants with suitable employment opportunities, which involves maintaining frequent communication with participants, the employment community, and referral sources. The Employment Specialist also coaches participants in interview and presentation skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for job applications. Documentation is a critical part of the role, as the Employment Specialist must enter and maintain accurate and timely account documentation within the database and prepare all required reports. Effective communication with supervisory staff and co-workers is essential, as is fostering a positive team environment. The Employment Specialist is expected to provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers, demonstrating a commitment to the organization's policies and procedures, as well as safety and security regulations. Additional responsibilities may include bilingual communication, performing miscellaneous duties as assigned, and completing all approved and assigned annual training. The position requires a proactive approach to networking and garnering new participant referrals, as well as a commitment to maintaining consistent attendance and punctuality.
