About The Position

The Department of Human Services (DHS) seeks An Employment Services Specialist with demonstrated commitment and experience providing clients with a range of employment services. The counseling and case management duties involve a variety of activities to help clients plan careers and locate/retain appropriate employment. This position provides career development and counseling services, job placement services, collaborates with service partners and performs the administrative tasks required to fulfill program objectives. The position will work in the Arlington Employment Center (AEC), which is part of the Economic Independence Division, and serves residents of Arlington County in their employment and workforce needs. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Education or a related field.
  • Experience in employment related counseling and placement or a closely related field.
  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Human Services, Education or a related field.
  • Understanding of SNAP and SNAP E&T program requirements, with experience interpreting and applying program and federal grant eligibility policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in managing cases using the Virginia Case Management System (VaCMS).
  • Bilingual English and Spanish (or another secondary language).
  • Experience with the creation and facilitation of career development and job seeking workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Providing a range of employment services, such as career planning and counseling, pre-employment training, resume assistance, vocational assessment, group job clubs, case management, educational workshops and job search assistance to a wide range of client groups
  • Developing outreach strategies and providing outreach services to recruit applicants from the community
  • Interviewing and assessing individual client needs for employment services while utilizing and interpreting vocational interest and aptitude tests when appropriate
  • Determining client eligibility for special programs funded by Federal/State employment grants
  • Conducting program assessment intake and developing clients’ activity and service plan in accordance with program policies
  • Providing case management services while monitoring and evaluating progress of clients in meeting long and short-term career objectives
  • Providing information and referral to a range of vocational training and education and employment programs available throughout the County
  • Providing and/or referring specialized clients for vocational interest and aptitude assessment
  • Interpreting and applying programmatic and Federal grant eligibility policies and procedures.
