About The Position

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for an Employment Immigration Paralegal to join Orrick's Global Employment & Equity practice group. This position could be based in either our New York or San Francisco office. What will I do: As an Immigration Paralegal, you will support Orrick's Global Employment & Equity Compensation group in employment immigration-focused client matters. As the inaugural immigration paralegal for a growing global immigration practice, lead the development, establishment and maintenance of internal processes, procedures and best practices.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of employment immigration-related work experience.
  • Ability to collaborate with attorneys and communicate with client contacts including HR and Legal departments and hiring managers.
  • Extensive knowledge of employment-based immigration including nonimmigrant visas, permanent residency and secondary/derivative benefit applications.
  • Experience preparing petition and application packages for review and filling with U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services and the Department of Labor.
  • Ability to manage immigration inquiries, gather required information, and keep clients and attorneys informed of progress.
  • Proficiency in immigration terminology and immigration tracking software.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support Orrick's Global Employment & Equity Compensation group in employment immigration matters for clients including industry leaders and startups in the technology sector.
  • Partner with attorneys to develop, implement and maintain efficient internal processes, procedures and best practices for employment immigration casework, tracking and recordkeeping.
  • Work on the full case lifecycle of employment-based nonimmigration petitions (such as: H-1B, TN, L-1, O-1, E-2 and E-3 petitions) from intake to filing with USCIS.
  • Work on the full case lifecycle of permanent residence applications including the PERM labor certification process, I-140 petitions and I-485 applications.
  • Provide instruction to clients on immigration practices and procedures and assist with issues that may arise relative to a foreign national's immigration status. Partner with attorneys to review appropriate options and determine the ultimate direction taken.
  • Research, monitor and keep abreast of latest immigration trends related to USCIS adjudications, consular procedures, case processing times, and travel restrictions and requirements, among other subject matters.
  • Monitor government deadlines and status expirations and identify issues for escalation as needed.
  • Coordinate with local counsel on ex-US global employment immigration matters.
  • Opportunity to gain exposure to other areas of labor & employment law on an as needed basis including global employment, equity compensation and U.S. employment.
