Under the supervision of the Rehabilitation Program Director, & mentoring from the Employment Development Specialist, the Employment Specialist is responsible for providing Supported Employment (SE), Work Adjustment Job Coaching (WAJC), Community Based Assessment, & Long-Term Vocational Supports (LTVS) to individuals with disabilities in the Community and on AbilityOne sites. This position works closely with Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors to achieve successful integrated job placements.

  • Manage an active caseload of up to 20 individuals by completing each milestone for intake, job development/placement, completion of training goals, stabilization, & successful closure.
  • Provide Job Coaching/Systematic Intensive training to the individual the first 3 days on the job and ongoing visits to job site utilizing task analysis, pictorial aids, & check in with individual’s supervisor.
  • Conduct quarterly surveys with employee, employer, & families for feedback about services & supports being provided.
  • Inform employer about available tax credits for hiring a person with a disability & assist employer in accessing/filling out the paperwork.
  • Upload milestone documentation into VR BEAM Billing System upon achievement for review/sing off by Employment Development Specialist (EDS) and/or Rehab Director.
  • Upload documentation into SETWORKS.
  • Meet weekly with EDS to develop weekly schedule and provide weekly job coaching schedule via electronic calendar, & other communication/review of caseload activities.
  • Conduct task and job-site analyses at selected locations to ensure appropriate job matches for individuals.
  • Conduct employer outreach, provide consultation, guidance, and disability awareness training to employers and business representatives as needed.
  • Coordinate and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings related to an individual’s Employment Support Plan; prepare annual individual support plans.
  • Attend all grant-related trainings and meetings as assigned, including those for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program.
  • Collaborate with the case manager and youth transition specialist, as needed, to ensure comprehensive support for the entire family and facilitate cross-collaboration.
  • Regularly meet with the Project Director, Project Evaluator, and key team members, including case managers, youth transition specialists, and employment development specialists from ServiceSource and affiliated organizations, to ensure alignment and progress toward grant objectives.
  • Actively seek opportunities to enhance knowledge of systems supporting TANF recipients and disconnected youth, including the barriers they face.
  • Foster collaboration through participation in community meetings, professional networks, and relevant trainings, enabling effective referrals and comprehensive care for individuals and families.
  • Must be available and willing to travel to multiple locations throughout the state or affiliate coverage area, sometimes with little notice required.
  • Must be available and willing to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, as needed.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.
  • Associate's degree (A.A.) preferred.
  • One year of experience working in employment with individuals with disabilities or other equivalent combination of education & experience required.
  • Valid NC North Carolina driver license, per state law, and/or access to reliable transportation to perform work-related travel required.
  • Eligible drivers must have a good motor vehicle record (MVR).
  • Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with consumers, families, all levels of staff, & community agencies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills, with the ability to become familiar with corporate specific programs and software.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, drug testing, & healthcare registry check.
  • Excellent oral/verbal communication skills.
