About The Position
The Employment Counselor at Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island plays a crucial role in supporting individuals seeking employment and career advancement. This position involves developing, coordinating, and facilitating workshops focused on job readiness, job retention, and career pathways. The Employment Counselor will work within a dedicated team of diverse professionals committed to creating a welcoming environment for all clients, particularly those who are vulnerable and facing various barriers such as educational, cultural, economic, and language challenges. For over a century, Dorcas International has been at the forefront of providing essential services, including adult education, language learning, job training, employment services, and refugee resettlement. The Employment Counselor will be responsible for the intake of new clients into the Employment Services Department, explaining the various programs and services available, and completing necessary paperwork for program enrollment. This role also includes evaluating clients' skills and educational levels, assisting with resume development, and preparing clients for job applications and interviews. In addition to these responsibilities, the Employment Counselor will support clients at their job sites post-placement, manage data entry of client information, and ensure quality assurance of documentation for reporting to funders and the agency. Weekly updates to Employment Services data, maintaining client checklists, and assessing client plans and goals are also key components of this role. The Employment Counselor will collaborate with other departments to promote Employment Services and recruit additional students needing assistance, while also coordinating referrals for necessary resources and services. Face-to-face interactions with clients and other stakeholders are essential to this position, ensuring that clients receive the support they need to achieve their vocational goals.
