As an Employment Counselor, you will assist refugees, and asylees find appropriate employment through the Refugee Employment Services (RES) program. This position will determine program eligibility, provide orientation, conduct client assessments, and prepare the client for employment through pre-employment training and job coaching.

  • Assist refugees and asylees in finding appropriate employment through the Refugee Employment Services (RES) program.
  • Determine program eligibility for clients.
  • Provide orientation to clients regarding employment services.
  • Conduct client assessments to evaluate needs and readiness for employment.
  • Prepare clients for employment through pre-employment training and job coaching.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, human services, political science or equivalent experience in human services or social work field.
  • Six to twelve months of experience providing social services to refugees or immigrants preferred.
  • Receptive to the nature of social work in the U.S., including concepts of boundaries, confidentiality, and empowerment.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Bilingual and bicultural preferred.
  • Skills in computer operation.
  • Sensitivity towards issues affecting a person's ability to obtain and retain employment.
  • Experience working with diverse populations in an employment counseling or rehabilitation setting preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and access to a car.
  • Speaking one or more of the following languages: Dari, Pashto, Ukrainian, Arabic, Kiswahili, Somali.
