The Employment Consultant at Best Buddies International plays a crucial role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in their journey towards meaningful employment. This position is centered around coaching, mentoring, and providing vocational support to help these individuals secure jobs that align with their skills and interests. The Employment Consultant works closely with clients to enhance their quality of life and promote greater independence through work. This involves guiding them through the job development and job-seeking process, offering coaching during onboarding, and providing follow-up support to ensure a smooth transition into the workplace. In this role, the Employment Consultant utilizes a person-centered approach, focusing on the unique needs and aspirations of each individual. They are responsible for developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients, their families, vocational rehabilitation counselors, advocates, and employers. The consultant also plays a key role in educating and persuading individuals and their families about the opportunities available to them, including navigating social security issues and understanding work incentives. By fostering a collaborative team approach, the Employment Consultant ensures that all parties involved are aligned in supporting the individual’s vocational goals. Additionally, the Employment Consultant is tasked with maintaining regular communication with employers to advocate for the rights of participants, ensuring they receive fair treatment and wages. They also provide essential training on workplace safety and emergency procedures, and actively participate in community outreach to raise awareness about Best Buddies International and its mission.
