POSITION SUMMARY: This position plans, organizes, implements and evaluates employee health programs for employees that support workforce well-being and safety. The role serves as a liaison with hospital departments to coordinate health initiatives and ensure timely intervention for work-related injuries and illnesses. This role reports to the Occupational Health Director. Position: Employee Health RN Ex Department: Occupational Health Schedule: Full Time ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: Performs job related pre-employment health appraisal screenings including review of medical history questionnaire and any other pertinent documentation, and immunization history, employee interviews, and updating of immunizations as needed Makes initial and follow-up (as appropriate) assessment of employees who experience a work-related injury or illness Evaluates and treats minor work-related injuries including superficial wounds not requiring suturing. Orders routine diagnostic tests and x-rays following medically approved guidelines and/or protocols and as directed/ordered by an advanced care provider. Administers medications as specified in medically approved guidelines or protocols and standing orders. Consults with the designated Employee Health Physician or the Chairman of the Infection Control Committee regarding physical findings and course of treatment when necessary. Refers for additional treatment as needed to ER, Primary Care Provider, Physician Specialist, etc., according to established protocols. Ensures that written clearance is provided for employees who are returning to work: Follows progress and maintains documentation of employees with work-related injury or illness. Provides written documentation and verbal information to Human Resources and Department Heads on Workman's Compensation issues. Follows up and documents on all critical exposures per state and federal regulations and Infection Control protocol. Notifies the Safety Officer, Safety Committee Chairperson, and Department Head of any health hazard identified in the course of screening any job related injury or illness for prompt resolution of the issue. Develops and maintains a system to review workman's compensation injuries. Coordinates processes designed to safely return the employee to the work force. Follows up and documents on all work-related incidents accidents in a timely manner in compliance with government and insurance regulations and guidelines (e.g. OSHA 300 Log, etc.). Maintains and evaluates immunization and medical surveillance programs. Maintains Employee Health documentation in the electronic health record. Integrates Employee Health into hospital activities and develops an awareness about the Employee Health program. Participates in education of employees regarding health and safety. Provides one-to-one education as the need arises Provides group educational programs as requested or as the need arises on current Employee Health issues/topics. Participates in the development and/or dissemination of educational posters, handouts, brochures, etc. as it relates to workplace safety Participates in the maintenance of the Safety Fair displays and training modules. Acts as a resource to employees and managers Notifies and/or involves appropriate departments or individuals in investigation and follow-up (e.g. Risk Management, Administration, Infection Control, Safety Officer, etc.). Maintains communication with employee regarding progress in the investigation and follow-up of concerns. Assists managers in dealing with health-related issues affecting their employees. Collaborates with Infection Control to plan and implement systems to monitor, prevent, or treat exposures to communicable diseases. Serves as a member of the Infection Control Committee and presents a quarterly report on employee infections/exposures for review by the committee. Serves as a member of the Safety Committee and presents a monthly report on safety-related issues for review by the committee. Maintains required statistics for OSHA, the DPH, and posts OSHA 300 log annually (per regulation) in collaboration with third party administrator (TPA) and Human Resources. Submits sharps injury log annually to DPH per regulations. Initiates and/or participates in quality improvement studies projects as appropriate. Reports results (as appropriate) to Performance Improvement Steering Committee, Safety Committee, Infection Control Committee, and/or Department Heads for follow-up.
