About The Position

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Employee Health Clinical Coordinator (CC) will be responsible for performing a variety of routine nursing tasks in the care and treatment of employees that are seen in the employee health office setting. This position requires the ability to work and collaborate effectively with the Clinical Nurse Supervisor, Director of Employee Health, Office Assistant and ancillary staff to provide quality services to MyMichigan Health employees, students and volunteers. Nursing tasks include pre-employment screenings, TB testing, injury assessment, blood pressure monitoring, vaccine injections, assessment and care of minor wounds, and maintaining appropriate documentation. The CC interacts with employees to render advice, interpret reports and/or test results and provide education on a variety of topics such as post exposure counseling. This position provides clerical, secretarial and reception support as needed. The CC must be able to multi-task to insure coordination of the patient flow process by answering the phone, scheduling appointments and performing clinic duties. Serving as one of the primary contacts for Employee Health, staff must demonstrate courteousness and professionalism to insure excellent service is provided to employee health customers.

Requirements

  • Must successfully complete the Chain of Custody Drug Screening Competency.
  • Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
  • Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing must be done annually.
  • Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan and maintain current BLS certification.
  • LPN technical certificate, Paramedic, Surgical Technologist (high school or equivalent) or Certified Medical Assistant required.
  • LPN, Paramedic State License or Certified Surgical Tech required.
  • BLS: Basic Life Support
  • EHCC: LPN or Paramedic

Responsibilities

  • Greets employees, physicians, volunteers, and performs routine procedures as assigned, including, taking vital signs, obtaining and reviewing history, allergies, TB testing, vaccine injections, pre-employment screenings, minor injury wound care, referral for injuries, performs simple laboratory test, etc.
  • Triages all calls and schedules accordingly.
  • Schedules appointments, reviews employee file and laboratory results.
  • Systematically organizes job functions by planning and prioritizing. Adheres to deadlines and achieves productivity.
  • Meets employee health department standards by working relationships and personal conduct. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing. Meets health and safety requirements with work practices. Adheres to administrative and departmental policies and procedures. Adjusts and reacts positively to changes to work environment and assignments.
  • Assists clinical nurse and clerical staff with scheduling appointments and handling walk-in requests for services. Receives and relays lab test results and physician requests/messages.
  • Participates in the development, execution, and annual review of the written policies/ procedures governing the services provided.
  • Assists clinical nurse with examinations and procedures.
  • Prepares and cleans the clinical work area, sets up equipment, cleans and facilitates room set up after a procedure. Disposes of contaminated supplies. Orders clinic supplies as needed.
  • Performs employee/client services including injections, minor dressing changes, and obtaining blood specimens and urine drug screens.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment for clients and co-workers.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and ensures employee/patients rights in accordance with proper procedures and in compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
  • Travels to off-site locations to administer services as assigned. Be able to work variable hours as needed to support the off-site and in-house clinic schedules i.e. TB and Influenza Mass Clinics.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
