About The Position

The Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL), a US Department of Energy research and development laboratory, is seeking a highly qualified and experienced development specialist to lead our Employee Development Office. In this position, you will contribute to SRNL’s success by advancing the development of our most important resource – our people. You will lead the strategic direction, design, and execution of scalable programs that foster a culture of continuous learning, strengthen leadership capabilities, and enhance organizational effectiveness. This position reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 15 years relevant experience or master’s degree and 10 years relevant experience
  • 10+ years of experience with adult learning, learning & development, facilitation, and or/training environments.
  • Experience performing training needs analysis
  • Familiarity with enterprise learning systems
  • Exceptional leadership skills including demonstrated ability to influence and lead results-oriented change, innovation, and customer focus while fostering relations and leading people.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree plus leadership and workforce development certifications
  • Previous experience working in a science and research environment, and/or as a government contractor, preferably in the DOE National Laboratory system

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement the learning strategy for employee growth and leadership development programs using proven instructional design models and best practices to achieve optimal learning.
  • Partner with leaders and stakeholders to run enterprise-and team-level learning needs assessments and target skill gaps.
  • Design, source, or curate learning programs and content; choose delivery modalities including e-learning, classroom, blended, coaching workshops, mentoring, and train the trainer.
  • Lead the succession planning process to identify and develop personnel to fill key positions.
  • Manage and mentor the employee development team, and manage contracts and relationships with external consultants and instructors
  • Measure learning impact with clear metrics; report outcomes and use data to improve
  • Stay current on learning science, trends, and technologies and recommend new tools and approaches
  • Partners closely with executive and senior leadership, HR leaders, managers, and other key stakeholders to develop learning initiatives that align with SRNL’s mission
  • Requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to multitask and manage a high volume of varied responsibilities
