About The Position

The Employee Benefits Team Leader will manage up to 5 complex clients with unique needs as the day-to-day contact and will be responsible for the management and development of the Service Team. This role involves providing proactive, personalized support to assigned clients, negotiating with carriers, representing client interests in internal strategy meetings, and ensuring accurate and timely responses. The leader will also oversee the operational strategic objectives of the service team, develop training plans, and provide strong insurance technical expertise to clients and team members. Regular client contact and in-person attendance at client meetings are essential, along with championing client cross-selling initiatives and educating clients on compliance topics.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in the employee benefits industry.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Expert understanding of Employee Benefits.
  • Prior managerial experience preferred.
  • Must hold life and disability insurance license or be willing to obtain within 4 months of hire.
  • Comfortable with internet-based programs and Microsoft Office products.
  • Able to carry out complex tasks with many concrete and abstract variables.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, team environment with minimal instruction.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a book of highly complex key clients with significant unique needs.
  • Provide proactive, personalized support to assigned clients.
  • Negotiate with carriers on behalf of clients.
  • Represent client interests in internal strategy meetings.
  • Set up new group insurance contracts.
  • Ensure accurate and timely responses.
  • Manage and develop a team of 4 or more employees.
  • Oversee and implement operational strategic objectives for the service team.
  • Develop and implement a regularly scheduled training plan for the service team.
  • Provide strong insurance technical expertise to clients and internal team members.
  • Lead client meetings regarding renewal and utilization results.
  • Maintain regular client contact and attend client meetings in person.
  • Champion client cross-selling initiatives and develop customer accounts.
  • Act as a technical expert on compliance topics for clients and internal team members.
  • Educate and communicate strategy and value to clients and internal team members.
  • Conduct on-site or virtual meetings to communicate or administer benefit plans.
  • Develop employee communications for changes and clarifications.
  • Participate in peer review processes for standard and complex deliverables.
