The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) invites well qualified candidates to apply for the position of Benefits & Retirement Representative. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college.
  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience, preferably in human resources, or satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and employee may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Requires ability to travel to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry-related topics relevant to job duties.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. This job may require a good deal of walking or standing and involves sitting for long periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to pass a criminal background and work history check.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) or more years of previous work experience with State of Illinois Personnel Code, Personnel Rules, Pay Plan, and Collective Bargaining Contracts.
  • One (1) or more years of previous work experience with both Group Insurance and State Employees’ Retirement benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Under general direction of the Human Resources (HR) & Labor Relations Manager, serves as the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board (ILETSB) Employee Benefits and Retirement Representative.
  • Counsels and assists agency employees regarding group insurance benefits, retirement, deferred compensation, and worker’s compensation by conducting informational individual meetings for both new and existing employees to educate and update on personnel and benefit changes as they occur.
  • Serves as a Recruiting Assistant in agency hiring efforts.
  • Cross trains on all HR & Recruiting functions and serves as a multi-skilled backup to ensure performance of necessary duties throughout the HR section in the event of vacancies or emergencies.
  • Maintains and compiles information and data for personnel, benefit, and recruitment-related statistical reports.
  • Performs other fiscal duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
