The Empire Promise Program Advisor at Empire State University is responsible for providing proactive support and advisement to undergraduate students in the Empire Promise Program. This role emphasizes fostering a sense of community and belonging among students while delivering academic advisement and managing student success initiatives. The advisor will engage in various programming activities, including new student orientation and ongoing outreach, to enhance student connections with the university.

  • Serve as the primary mentor and academic advisor for Empire Promise Program students throughout their matriculated lifecycle.
  • Provide coaching and support services by meeting with students regularly and connecting with instructors to monitor academic progress.
  • Deliver degree planning and liaise with Academic Review to amend degree plans as needed.
  • Develop career and graduate school resources tailored to the needs of EPP students.
  • Identify and address academic concerns, assisting students in navigating policies and services.
  • Collaborate with university offices to ensure comprehensive support for students.
  • Monitor student academic progress weekly and follow up individually.
  • Input and update information into CRM Advise and other university systems.
  • Participate in professional development activities related to the program.
  • Represent EPP or OP at necessary meetings and governance.
  • Assist in other program functions as directed by the Director.
  • Facilitate monthly enrichment programming and the EPP Extended Student Orientation during summer and winter.
  • Assist in delivering OP/EPP programming throughout the academic year.
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of three years of professional experience in a higher educational setting.
  • A minimum of two years in academic advising and/or counseling experience.
  • Prior experience working with college students in digital learning environments, including asynchronous and synchronous online settings.
  • Prior experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, particularly those underrepresented or underserved.
  • Prior experience in working with opportunity and/or access programs, diverse populations, or disadvantaged students.
  • A master's degree or coursework in higher education, counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience with adult or non-traditional students.
  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English.
