About The Position

CASES seeks an Emotional Wellness Specialist who is committed to advancing our alternative-to-incarceration programming, ROAR (Reframing Opportunity, Alternatives and Resilience), for young people ages 16-27 in Harlem. The Emotional Wellness Specialist has a key role developing and maintaining relationships with the ATI participants and community stakeholders providing mental health services. The Emotional Wellness Specialist will join a multidisciplinary team and will provide comprehensive clinical and referral services to participants. All team members will work within our ATI model that helps young people who are at risk of incarceration build the capacity and courage to change their lives. The ROAR program helps young people develop critical skills to reach education and employment milestones and transform their relationships and connections to community. The Emotional Wellness Specialist will promote participant success and equity through culturally competent service delivery that meets the unique needs and experiences of young people involved in the criminal justice system. The Emotional Wellness Specialist will have content expertise in youth development, trauma-informed care, gender-specific services, resiliency, and strengths-based dynamic assessment and service planning. Team members will support the fundamental beliefs that meaningful change is possible, participant voice is critical for effective services, and creating a safe space for young people promotes skill development. We believe that in-person operations are the best way to serve our clients, both directly and through essential operational support. This job requires work in our offices and/or the community.

Requirements

  • BSW/BA in Psychology, Counseling or Behavioral Health or related field AND at least two years of experience working with young adults and/or families; preferably with those impacted by the criminal legal system
  • Experience creating and/or facilitating developmentally appropriate groups/activities including but not limited to CBT
  • Experience delivering evidence-based models
  • Track record of delivering sustained quality treatment services
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse team

Nice To Haves

  • LMSW/LMHC or working towards licensure.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Responsibilities

  • Develop rapport with participants and families to create wellness plans and other assessments.
  • Facilitate groups and individual counseling sessions using Interactive Journaling and other evidence-based curricula that is strength-based and developmentally appropriate for participants.
  • Provide in-home and/or in-community services in addition to services at program site.
  • Promote developmentally appropriate responses to program participants including family, collaterals and natural supports as indicated by assessment, consent and participant preference.
  • Ensure service plans are developed in collaboration with participants addressing needs and establishing measurable timeframes to meet objectives and goals.
  • Provide trauma-informed services and supervision to support effective risk management to reduce serious incidents through proactive risk reduction strategies which identify potential problems and implement preventive measures.
  • Support meaningful opportunities for participants to provide feedback and input into program services.
  • Perform crisis response services as needed.
  • Work flexible hours when required.
  • Provide services that are inclusive of diversity and address the disparities experienced by program participants.
  • Provide in-office case management to participants.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Team Leader or Director.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with mental health service providers in the community.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborative service planning.
