Position Title : Associate Attorney Reports To : Partner, Emerging Practices Responsibilities: Draft original motions, pleadings, and other litigation-related documents in complex matters. Prepare and respond to written discovery, including drafting discovery requests and responses exchanged with multiple parties. Develop and advance case defenses, litigation strategy, and trial themes with increasing autonomy. Analyze and apply state and federal case law, statutes, and regulatory authority to case facts in support of pre-trial motions and other submissions. Interview, prepare, and examine fact witnesses, expert witnesses, and corporate representatives for testimony in litigation or before regulatory bodies. Take and defend depositions, including lay, expert, and corporate representative depositions. Argue motions and participate in court appearances as appropriate based on experience. Build and maintain strong client relationships through clear, professional oral and written communication. Draft pre-trial reports, case evaluations, and perform exposure and risk analysis. Participate in mediations, settlement conferences, status conferences, and hearings, including court-mandated proceedings. Develop comprehensive strategies for case resolution and approach legal issues with creativity and sound judgment. Identify, assign, and supervise work performed by paralegals and litigation support staff on assigned matters. Negotiate settlements with plaintiffs and opposing counsel. Participate in networking and business development activities to support client relationships and firm growth. Demonstrate leadership through participation in bar associations, professional organizations, and community involvement. Serve as a resource and mentor to junior attorneys within the firm’s practice areas. Provide substantive support to Shareholders, Partners, and Senior Counsel on complex litigation matters. Meet annual billable hour requirements and comply with firm timekeeping, ethical, and professional responsibility policies. Additional responsibilities as requested by Management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-7 years of litigation experience in a law firm
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active admission to practice law, with good standing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the State of Rhode Island. Additional State licenses are highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing billable work in a law firm setting.
  • Substantive litigation experience in one or more of the following areas: environmental law, commercial litigation, product liability, construction litigation, insurance defense, business litigation, or other complex risk management matters.
  • Strong client service orientation with proven experience interacting directly with clients.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and perform effectively in a fast-paced litigation environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with Filevine or other document management systems preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure while exercising sound professional judgment.

  • Professional, courteous demeanor and commitment to high ethical standards.
  • Work occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
