About The Position

VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center Team is expanding its Emergency and Critical Care Service and is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our Evening Team! Come grow with us and make a difference! Compensation: $28 - 35/hr and the starting range for technicians is determined by license, skill set, and years of experience in the field. Shift: Full-time opportunities, 3 x 12-hour shifts, Swing / Evening shift. Sundays required and some holidays.

Requirements

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician.
  • Experience in emergency and critical care preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with diagnostic imaging and laboratory procedures.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia and sedation monitoring.
  • Familiarity with blood transfusion therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform an initial assessment to evaluate the patient's condition quickly, including checking vital signs and assessing for obvious injuries or distress.
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians to assist in exams, treatments, and medical procedures for emergency cases.
  • Proficiently perform venipuncture, intravenous catheter placement, and grow advanced vascular access techniques.
  • Safely and accurately administer fluids, medications, and other treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
  • Work in conjunction with all technical staff across the hospital to ensure hospitalized patients receive optimal care.
  • Vigilantly monitor hospitalized patients, identifying subtle changes in their clinical status.
  • Provide clear and concise discharge instructions to clients.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and monitor anesthesia to ensure patient safety.
  • Operate diagnostic imaging equipment and assist in capturing radiographs and other diagnostic images.
  • Run diagnostics, correlate results with the clinical presentation of the patient, and notify Veterinarian of results.
  • Administer oxygen using various methods.
