About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Levittown, PA is hiring an experienced Veterinary Technician to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. This role offers an exciting, fast-paced opportunity that allows you to utilize the skills you have worked hard to gain while providing care and comfort to critically ill or injured patients. You will have the chance to expand and grow your skills, working alongside some of the most talented veterinary professionals.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Veterinary Technician.
  • Certification as LVT, CVT, RVT, LVMT, or VTS is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
  • Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
  • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
  • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Proficiently perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  • Mentor and train other co-workers.
  • Address client concerns with patience and empathy.
