About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department at our Levittown, PA Hospital! Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, lab work, etc), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

Requirements

• Knowledge of pharmacology and basic medical math.
• Understanding of IV fluid therapy.
• Ability to monitor therapeutic response and associated side effects of medications.
• Experience in performing diagnostics such as radiographs and lab work.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
