About The Position

Arvada Fire is excited to announce our Internship program in collaboration with Warren Tech to provide real world experience in fire apparatus maintenance and repair for second-year students in the Automotive Technology Program. This opportunity is limited to current second-year students in Warren Tech's Automotive Technology Program. No other applicants will be considered. Position: Emergency Vehicle Technician Internship Supervisor: Fleet Maintenance Supervisor / Lead Mechanic FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 10 hours per week Employment Type: Temporary / Part-Time Internship Position Summary: The Emergency Vehicle Technician Intern supports the Emergency Vehicle Services team in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of emergency response vehicles and related equipment. This internship provides hands-on learning opportunities under the direct supervision of certified technicians, with a focus on preventative maintenance, safety, documentation, and exposure to emergency vehicle systems.

Requirements

  • Current second-year Warren Tech Automotive Technology student.
  • Coursework or experience related to emergency vehicles, fleet, or heavy-duty equipment.
  • Familiarity with basic diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Previous shop, maintenance, or mechanical experience.
  • Basic understanding of vehicle systems and mechanical tools.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely in a shop environment.
  • Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and work collaboratively.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Emergency Vehicle Technicians with routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs on emergency vehicles and related equipment.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, tire rotation, fluid checks, and filter replacement under supervision.
  • Assist with diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems as assigned.
  • Support inspections of emergency lighting, warning systems, and auxiliary equipment under supervision.
  • Accurately document work performed in the vehicle maintenance or work order system
  • Assist with shop organization, tool inventory, and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Follow all safety procedures, policies, and applicable regulations at all times.
  • Participate in training opportunities and observe advanced repairs and testing procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of Emergency Vehicle Services operations.
