About The Position

Reporting to the Emergency Department Director or Lead, the ER Technician works as a member of a team to provide ancillary support to both the nursing and medical staff. The ED Technician performs EKG’s, wound care and bandaging, vitals, splinting/immobilizations, equipment setup, and departmental stocking/ordering. Assists nursing and medical staff in other duties as assigned. This job description is intended to identify some of the primary duties and responsibilities. Mayers Memorial Hospital District reserves the right to modify, supplement, delete or augment the duties and responsibilities specified in this position description, at MAYERS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL DISTRICT’S sole and absolute discretion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current BLS level CPR certification
  • Phlebotomy certification within one year of hire
  • Successful completion of MMHD approved ICS 100, 200 within one year of hire
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, walks and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Current certification as an EMT 1 or Paramedic within the state of California and the SSV-EMS region preferred
  • Alternatively, certification as Medical Assistant preferred

Responsibilities

  • Stocks, cleans and maintains department and related equipment in a safe and ready to use condition
  • Inventory and order supplies
  • Maintains awareness of potentially dangerous situations and take appropriate action to ensure safety of self, other employees, patients, and the public.
  • Take vital signs and place patient on cardiac monitor as indicated
  • Assist with patient needs such as positioning/ambulating
  • Assist with patient transport for admission, discharge, radiologic testing or transfer from the Emergency Department
  • Assist with preparation of patient for exams, undressing/gowning
  • Assist MD with wound/injury care to include splinting/traction, positioning, setting up for suturing or other special procedures/trays
  • Performs CPR
  • Performs 12 lead EKG’s
  • Performs venipuncture for blood collection, labels, and transports specimens to the lab
  • Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and professional
  • Completes annual education requirements as applicable
  • Maintains regulatory requirements
  • Wears identification while on duty
  • Attends annual evaluation and participates actively in this process
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.
  • Attends all meetings as appropriate
  • Complies with all Federal, State, and regulatory requirements
  • Exhibits the mission, ethics and goals of Mayers Memorial Hospital District in the performance of job duties
  • Professional behavior is demonstrated, both when on duty and as a representative of MMHD outside of normal work hours
