About The Position

Sovah Health in Danville, VA, is seeking a PRN Emergency Department Technician, under the supervision of an RN, to perform basic patient care activities.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Requires the ability to read and write legibly and carry out directions promptly and accurately.
  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to work effectively and efficiently.
  • Must exhibit effective communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. It requires the ability to respond quickly and calmly during stressful or an emergency.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Current certification from Virginia or North Carolina as an EMT (or military equivalent, i.e., Military Occupational Specialty-Medical Specialist MOS91B or 91W) or
  • An active, unrestricted Certified Nurses’ Aide (CNA) certification by the Virginia Board of Nursing is required.
  • Applicants hired based on MOS equivalent must have completed state-approved/recognized OEMS requirements for EMT or Virginia Board of Nursing Certification for CNA within 12 months of hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as an ED Tech, EMT, or CNA in an Emergency Department setting or one year of experience as a Clinical Associate at DRMC preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possibly taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
  • Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including but not limited to bathing, grooming, eating, and ambulation.
  • Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to the nursing staff.
  • Assists with keeping patient rooms and common areas stocked, clean, and orderly.
