The Emergency Department (ED) Technician II provides patient services and care, cleans, maintains, and stocks supplies and equipment, and applies standard precautions and infection control principles. This role requires demonstrating the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide services appropriate to the population and age group in the emergency department. The ED technician collects data reflective of patient status and reports it to licensed clinical staff, ensuring information is relative to the patient's specific age and needs per policy and procedure. Additionally, the ED Technician performs clerical, safety attendant, and other assigned duties within their scope, receiving delegated work from a Registered Nurse or medical staff member as part of the care team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Phlebotomy, ECG Tech, EMT, or NA licensure
  • Basic patient assessment skills including primary survey
  • Basic knowledge of primary interventions
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills
  • High level of compassion, desire to help others, and self-confidence
  • Basic computer knowledge with demonstrated administrative skills

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of ED Technician experience
  • ECG course/certification
  • Medical terminology
  • EMT- B/I/P

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient services and care
  • Clean, maintain, and stock supplies and equipment
  • Apply the principles of standard precautions and infection control
  • Collect data reflective of the patient status and report information to licensed clinical staff in the Emergency Department
  • Perform clerical, safety attendant, and other duties as assigned within their scope
  • Receive delegated work by a Registered Nurse or member of the medical staff
  • Provide and document assistance to patients under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Assist/provide patient care throughout the entire patient experience under the direct supervision of the physician and/or the registered nurse
  • Assist in room turnaround, including appropriate cleaning of equipment, supplies, and environment
  • Organize supplies and equipment as needed
  • Assist with patient care while complying with Department, Hospital, and Regulatory policies and procedures
  • Understand concepts of sterile and non-sterile techniques
  • Adhere to safety measures
