About The Position

The position is for a part-time role in the Emergency Department at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. The scheduled hours are from 1:00 PM to 1:00 AM, including every third weekend and alternating holidays. The pay range for this position is between $21.45 and $32.20 per hour. The role requires a Nurse Aide in good standing or an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license, along with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification to be obtained within six months unless otherwise determined by the department leader. A high school diploma is required, and typically one year of experience is expected.

Requirements

  • Nurse Aide in good standing or EMT Basic/Intermediate/Paramedic license.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • High school graduate.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage time and priorities effectively.
  • High level of attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians and registered nurses in providing technical care to patients.
  • Performs phlebotomy and transports patients to other departments.
  • Places patients on cardiac and vital sign monitors.
  • Performs wound care and inserts Foley catheters.
  • Obtains lab specimens and may perform IV starts if allowed by state regulations.
  • Documents information and procedures, communicating observations and concerns to registered nurses.
  • Processes daily patient charges through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Collaborates with physicians to facilitate patient care communications.
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment, following safety policies.
  • Monitors equipment and troubleshoots minor problems.
  • Performs patient positioning and transporting duties, utilizing proper techniques.
