About The Position

As an Emergency Services Dispatcher 1 with the Alaska State Troopers, you will be expected to: Maintain positivity and resiliency while providing support for the field enforcement units of the Department of Public Safety at the Alaska State Troopers Northen Operations Center. Display professionalism, compassion, and support to all individuals contacted in the line of duty. This includes, but is not limited to, the public, field enforcement units, civilian staff, other agencies, and coworkers. The work environment is fast-paced - we answer more than 135,000 calls per year. You will be part of a team of dispatchers who truly are the heart of the telecommunications services provided by the Department of Public Safety. Requirements

  • Two years of work experience. This experience must include six months of experience that entails clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
  • The ability to type at a net speed of 30 words per minute with no more than three errors per minute.
  • Any combination of education from an accredited college (three semester hours or four quarter hours equal one month of experience), vocational education (150 hours equal one month of experience), and/or work experience may substitute for up to 18 months of non-specific work experience.
  • Applicants with the ability to produce consistently high-quality work in an environment with numerous interruptions and rapidly shifting priorities
  • Applicants with the ability to work with confidential and sensitive information
  • Applicants who are willing to work shiftwork, weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • Applicants with the ability to operate multiple telephone lines
