About The Position

When someone is in crisis, every moment matters. EBCAP is seeking an experienced Emergency Service Clinician/Clinical Therapist to deliver immediate, life-changing behavioral health interventions to individuals and families experiencing acute mental health crises. This position is at the frontline of our behavioral health system, ensuring rapid response, clinical excellence, and seamless coordination of care when people need it most. You'll provide crisis intervention across office-based and community settings, conducting risk assessments, stabilization services, and same-day access intakes. This role combines the intensity of emergency response with the clinical depth of diagnostic assessment and short-term therapeutic engagement, all while supporting continuity of care across EBCAP's integrated behavioral health services.

Requirements

  • Licensure: Licensed for independent clinical practice in Rhode Island (LICSW, LMHC, PhD, or equivalent) as defined by the Rhode Island Department of Health
  • Experience: 37 years of post-graduate clinical experience providing crisis intervention and emergency behavioral health services
  • Clinical Skills: Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments, crisis stabilization, and short-term therapeutic interventions
  • Transportation: Valid driver's license and active automobile insurance for required community-based travel
  • Core Competencies: Clinical Judgment: Sound decision-making under high-pressure and time-sensitive conditions
  • Communication: Clear and effective engagement with clients, families, multidisciplinary teams, and community partners
  • Trauma-Informed Care: Application of trauma-informed and person-centered approaches to crisis intervention
  • Accountability: Responsibility for clinical outcomes, documentation accuracy, and regulatory compliance
  • Collaboration: Effective coordination across programs to ensure service continuity

  • Familiarity with crisis response systems, law enforcement collaboration, and hospital diversion models

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person and community-based risk assessments, stabilization, and counseling for individuals and families experiencing acute behavioral health crises
  • Deliver individual, family, and group therapy services that address immediate clinical needs while supporting stabilization and safety planning
  • Provide integrated emergency behavioral health services, including crisis stabilization, opioid triage, harm reduction, and outreach
  • Determine the need for higher levels of care, including hospitalization, by applying clinical judgment, regulatory standards, and risk mitigation protocols
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments and same-day access intakes across behavioral health sites to determine level of care, treatment needs, and referral pathways
  • Triage crisis calls and referrals from individuals, families, law enforcement, schools, and community agencies to ensure timely face-to-face clinical response
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team communication, consultation, and case review to support clinical decision-making and quality outcomes
  • Coordinate care delivery to ensure seamless transitions and service continuity across EBCAP's behavioral health system
  • Complete clinical documentation accurately and within established timelines in accordance with EBCAP standards
  • Maintain compliance with state, federal, licensing, and accreditation standards, including Rhode Island Department of Health requirements
  • Engage in supervision and quality assurance processes by communicating significant clinical information during scheduled and ad hoc supervision sessions
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives through program evaluation and service enhancement activities
  • Represent EBCAP at community education, outreach, and awareness events to strengthen partnerships and promote access to emergency behavioral health services
  • Participate in organizational committees, workgroups, and cross-program initiatives to support agency-wide objectives
