About The Position

The Emergency Screener provides emergency/mental health assessments to patients in need of crisis stabilization. The Emergency Screener also screens patients in crisis for psychiatric hospitalization - both voluntary and involuntary and provides crisis stabilization services to patients in psychiatric crisis. Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) is a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week crisis intervention service that offers face-to-face crisis and emergency intervention to individuals who are suicidal, homicidal, or acutely psychotic. PES is not able to assist with prescription renewals, evictions, or non-crisis calls.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in the mental-health-related field from an accredited institution, plus one year of postmaster's, full-time equivalent, professional experience in a psychiatric setting; or Bachelor's degree in the mental-health-related field from an accredited institution, plus three years post-bachelors, full-time equivalent, professional experience in the mental health field, one of which is in a crisis setting; Bachelor's degree in the mental-health-related field, one of which is in a crisis setting and currently enrolled in a master's program.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license, use of an insured vehicle and an acceptable driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work or a related field with clinical training.

Responsibilities

  • Provides appropriate referral and linkage when indicated.
  • Develops and implements alternative treatment plans.
  • Consults with psychiatrist and E.R. doctor regarding client disposition.
  • Provides assessment of drug and alcohol involvement when clinically indicated and provides disposition planning for D/A involved patients.
  • Completes Authorization for Police Transport form (when appropriate), Screening Document and appropriate clinical instruments
  • Works collaboratively with coworkers and agency staff to effectively communicate and problem solve
