About The Position

UW Veterinary Care is seeking a dedicated and skilled Veterinary Technician Supervisor to lead our 24/7 Emergency Nursing team. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership abilities, advanced veterinary technical expertise, and a steady presence in a fast-paced emergency environment. In this role, the Supervisor will oversee daily operations, support and develop a team of veterinary nurses, and ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care. This position plays a key role in fostering an efficient, collaborative, and supportive work environment within our emergency service. This position can be full or part-time, between 80-100%. The anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday , with shifts falling between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. An every-other-weekend shift (Saturday or Sunday) is required, with weekday hours adjusted accordingly during the weeks a weekend shift is worked. As this position oversees 24/7 service, this position is likely to be contacted after-hours for questions/concerns from staff.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of CVT experience
  • Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently
  • Physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks
  • Strong communication skills
  • High School Diploma Required
  • Veterinary Technician Certification (CVT) Required

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 2 years previous leadership experience
  • Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) Preferred
  • Associate's Degree Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Act in the capacity of a working supervisor, supporting the ER nursing team as well as providing back-up support to the CCU and Intermediate Care Ward teams (20%)
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees (20%)
  • Provides nursing animal care for patients and works alongside other veterinary technicians in the unit (15%)
  • Schedules logistics and secures resources to ensure adequate staffing, equipment, and supplies to ensure optimal operation of a designated animal care unit (15%)
  • Prepares, completes, and documents technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity (15%)
  • Develops animal care procedures, protocols, and affiliated reference materials to ensure compliance with established rules and regulations (15%)
