About The Position

Geisinger is proud to offer an Emergency Room Technician I a $1500 sign on bonus for eligible candidates, $15.76 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts! Also offering up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse! The position involves performing basic patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and maintaining the patient care and unit environment consistent with the policies, procedures, and practices. The technician will promote a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care, triage patient care, report changes in patient condition, assist with various procedures, and coordinate relations between care providers, patients, and visitors. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment, and the technician is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
  • Basic Life Support Certification required.
  • Skills in communication, organizing, preceptor skills, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic patient care under supervision of the Registered Nurse.
  • Maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with policies and procedures.
  • Promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
  • Triages patient care by identifying, observing, and documenting the physical needs of the patient and families.
  • Reports changes in patient condition to Registered Nurse.
  • Assists patient care staff by performing procedures such as wound care, splinting, and EKGs.
  • Provides patient care related to rehabilitation to carry out multidisciplinary care plans.
  • Provides unit desk clerk functions when needed.
  • Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens according to policy and procedure.
  • Uses two patient identifiers with proper labeling.
  • Monitors blood glucose and performs urine and stool testing.
  • Assists with transporting patients and medications within the hospital.
  • Coordinates relations between care providers, patients, and visitors.
