About The Position

The Emergency Room Technician (ERT) position at the University of Chicago Medicine involves assisting registered nursing staff in providing high-quality patient care within the Adult Emergency Department. This role is critical in ensuring efficient patient transport, maintaining supplies, and supporting nursing staff in various tasks, all while adhering to Illinois State law and hospital policies. The position requires a commitment to compassionate care for a diverse patient population and is a full-time, onsite role with night shifts.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• C.N.A with phlebotomy certification or EKG experience, or M.A. with phlebotomy certification or EKG experience, or EMT-B or EMT-P.
• Current Basic Life Support certification through The American Heart Association.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform a variety of patient assistance tasks without direct supervision.
• Ability to interact effectively with patients, clinical staff, and the general public.

Nice To Haves

• ED RN experience.
• ACLS/PALS certification.

Responsibilities

• Transporting patients throughout the hospital as needed.
• Keeping supplies and linen at par levels in assigned areas.
• Performing and maintaining point-of-care (POC) testing and EKG, including quality control and data transmission.
• Assisting registered nurses with patient care as needed and/or requested, within legal and policy limits.
• Sitting with medically or psychologically compromised patients.
• Maintaining a clean work environment by preparing emergency department rooms for the next patient when necessary.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
