Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years' experience as a certified nursing assistant, patient care technician, medical office assistant, or EMT.
  • Skilled in completing electrocardiograms or competency within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience with phlebotomy.
  • BLS certification from an AHA or ARC program.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Successful completion of IV training required with competency demonstrated within 60 days of hire.
  • CPI-Advanced Skills within 6 months of hire.
  • If hired with EMT certification, it must be kept current throughout employment.

Responsibilities

  • Collects data including intake and output, weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure; recognizes and reports abnormal values to the nurse.
  • Documents patient information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates competency in EKGs, phlebotomy, and point of care testing; reports results to the primary RN.
  • Responds to patient requests for assistance in a respectful and timely manner.
  • Maintains adequate stock of supplies and ensures proper function of unit equipment.
  • Performs daily required duties including stocking rooms and mobile carts.
  • Makes frequent patient rounds to provide comfort, position, and hygiene care.
  • Seeks assistance to ensure safe and effective patient care.
  • Transfers and transports patients safely according to nursing policies.
  • Welcomes new patients and their families, maintaining principles of AIDET.
  • Assumes accountability for actions in the workplace and reports errors promptly.
  • Orients new staff and students to work areas.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff to retain qualified personnel.
  • Utilizes downtime to assist others and provide amenities to patients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
