The role of the Emergency Room Social Worker is to provide discharge planning for patients admitted to the emergency department. The social worker is a member of the interdisciplinary team. The social worker conducts clinical social work assessments and provides a range of services such as crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, information and referrals. The social worker is also responsible for facilitating psychiatric transfers for those patients who are in the emergency room and in need of psychiatric hospitalization. Furthermore, the Emergency Room Social Worker sees referrals from the pediatric emergency room.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW)
  • New York State License as a Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW)

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of inpatient Medical/Surgical experience
  • Discharge planning experience
  • Experience with Epic and Allscripts

Responsibilities

  • Provide discharge planning for patients admitted to the emergency department.
