About The Position

Deliver exceptional emergency nursing care at a 500+ bed acute care hospital in Salem, Virginia, providing quality healthcare services since 1909. This Emergency Room RN role offers the opportunity to care for patients ranging from minor injuries to acutely and critically ill cases in a fast-paced, supportive environment. The facility specializes in heart and vascular care with a designated Heart Center featuring advanced technology, plus orthopedics, spine care, mental and behavioral health, and cancer services. The unit operates as a close-knit family of professionals supporting each other while delivering meaningful patient care with leaders passionate about professional development and collegial relationships. Requirements

  • Diploma or Associate's Degree from professional nursing program
  • Current Virginia RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license with eligibility to practice in Virginia
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Health Care Provider - American Heart Association - current
  • Minimum 1 year of RN Emergency Room experience in acute care setting (will consider med-surg candidates for cross-training on NIGHT SHIFT ONLY)
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work rotating shifts (Days, Nights, Mixed, Evenings) with rotating weekends

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or current enrollment in BSN program at accredited school
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
  • Previous experience in high-acuity emergency departments
  • Trauma nursing experience

Responsibilities

  • Triage, assess, and treat emergency patients of all ages using critical thinking and clinical expertise in fast-paced environment.
  • Manage multiple cases simultaneously providing general nursing care and prioritizing needs based on acuity levels across the unit.
  • Act in composed and professional manner, especially under pressure during emergent and critical situations.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team to coordinate effective follow-up plans of care and necessary referrals.
  • Document patient care effectively, succinctly, and timely according to organizational policy and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate functions with physicians and other hospital departments while remaining patient-focused and safety-aware at all times.
  • Provide nursing interventions for conditions ranging from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies across all age groups.
  • Demonstrate competency in emergency procedures including cardiac monitoring, trauma care, and critical interventions.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and maintain current knowledge of emergency nursing best practices.
  • Support team members and contribute to collaborative, family-oriented unit culture focused on excellence in emergency care.

Benefits

  • Hourly Pay: $32.33-$48.50 based on years of experience (0-9 years: $32.33 | 10-19 years: $40.41 | 20+ years: $48.50)
  • Shift Differentials: Night $3.00/hour | Weekend Days $3.00/hour | Weekend Nights $7.00/hour
  • Sign-On Bonus: $15,000 with 2-year commitment
