About The Position

Lead emergency nursing operations at a 500+ bed acute care hospital in Salem, Virginia, providing quality healthcare services since 1909. Three Emergency Room Manager positions are available: 2 positions for main ED (one day shift 7AM-7PM, one evening 3PM-11PM) and 1 position for freestanding emergency department (day shift 7AM-7PM). The facility specializes in heart and vascular care with a designated Heart Center featuring advanced technology, plus orthopedics, spine care, mental and behavioral health, and cancer services. All positions offer no weekend requirements with exceptional work-life balance. Requirements

  • Diploma or Associate's Degree from professional nursing program
  • Current Virginia RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license with eligibility to practice in Virginia
  • Emergency Room management experience (required)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Health Care Provider - American Heart Association - current
  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) or BCLS Instructor required within 30 days of hire
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or ACLS Instructor required within 1 year of hire
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or PALS Instructor required within 1 year of hire
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
  • Strong leadership, communication, and operational management skills
  • Availability for assigned shift (days or evenings) with no weekend requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or current enrollment in BSN program at accredited school
  • CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) certification
  • Previous ED management experience in multiple shifts or freestanding emergency departments

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for management of emergency department unit in absence of Director.
  • Plan for adequate resources based on workload, patient volume, and departmental activities to ensure optimal staffing and operations.
  • Assist in development, review, and revision of unit standards, policies, and procedures to maintain excellence in emergency care delivery.
  • Interview, hire, and evaluate staff per organizational policy while ensuring licensure, competencies, and mandatory in-services remain current.
  • Facilitate orientation of new employees, students, and volunteers in collaboration with healthcare team members.
  • Maintain open communication with other departments to coordinate efficient patient care and seamless emergency operations.
  • Provide leadership ensuring exceptional patient care delivery across emergency services.
  • Support team members and foster collaborative environment focused on meaningful patient care and professional development.
  • Monitor quality metrics, patient satisfaction, and operational benchmarks to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards including Joint Commission, CMS, and state requirements for emergency services.
  • Manage daily operations including scheduling, resource allocation, and clinical oversight for assigned shift.
  • Respond to escalations and provide clinical expertise for complex or critical emergency cases.
  • Support staff development through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
