Provides professional nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department, adhering to established policies and procedures to ensure safe, effective and timely care. Delivers age-appropriate care across the lifespan, from infant to geriatric patients. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, collaborating with the multidisciplinary care team. Demonstrates the critical knowledge and skills necessary to identify and address the unique and urgent needs of all patients in the emergency setting.

  • Assess and diagnose patient and family needs in order to provide high-quality care to all patients.
  • Provides patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with others as needed and adjusts care plans as needed to ensure optimal care.
  • Performs system assessments as designated and at appropriate intervals on all assigned patients, recognizing disturbed physiology and abnormal parameters.
  • Identifies discharge planning needs of patient/family/significant other on admission.
  • Collaborates with patients, families and significant others to develop and discuss a realistic plan of care, addressing all identified needs.
  • Creates and communicates patient and family education and discharge plans in accordance with Unit standards.
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
  • Adheres to hospital policy and procedures for administering, transcribing, and recording of medications.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of commonly used meds: action, dose, and side effects.
  • Observes 10 rights of medication administration.
  • Administers blood and blood products following hospital policy and procedures.
  • Initiates and maintains IV access according to hospital policy and procedures.
  • Continuously evaluates identified problems, care provided and patient's responses to ensure that patient and family needs are met quality care is delivered.
  • Assesses the patient learning needs, abilities, preferences, and readiness to learn.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of teaching plans by assessing patient and family responses.
  • Modifies the plan of care as necessary to meet the needs of the patient and their significant others.
  • Performs all responsibilities/duties required by unit as defined in the scope of service.
  • Demonstrates skill and knowledge in nursing management of emergency situations.
  • Maintains sterile field for minor OR procedures such as insertion of central lines, chest tubes, etc.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided.
  • Minimum of an associate's degree in nursing.
  • Current Nevada RN license.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications required.
  • Previous Emergency department experience preferred.
  • Professional customer service skills.
  • Ability to read and communicate in English, bilingual abilities preferred.
  • STABLE certification recommended.
  • 15% added to the hourly rate due to per diem status.
