This job organizes, coordinates, plans and conducts activities in all aspects of emergency preparedness and response, including but not limited to bio/chem events, evacuation, surge, and severe weather and community disasters. Conducts and evaluates emergency training, drills and exercises and acts as a liaison to emergency management counterparts. Leads development, implementation and management of the company’s Emergency Operations Plan and supporting plans for assigned facilities. Ensures campus/region meets all emergency management Joint Commission standards and maintains supporting documentation. Participates as a member of the Incident Management Team (IMT) during disasters/emergencies. Requirements

  • Education Required - High School diploma or equivalent
  • Work Experience Required: Experience in emergency management, emergency services, safety, or a related field through professional roles, internships, practicums, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Foundational understanding of emergency management principles, preparedness, and incident response
  • Certifications Required Valid driver’s license
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
  • Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid. The incumbent has no occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, ESF8, PowerPoint.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process, to include C-Suites (Executives).
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Exhibits effective public speaking skills.
  • Skills to establish and maintain good rapport with government authorities.
  • Self-motivated with skills to work independently without close supervision or specific instruction.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred - Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Healthcare Administration, or a related field
  • Preferred: 1–5 years of experience in emergency management, emergency services, safety, or a related operational field
  • Experience in a healthcare, hospital, public safety, or large organizational environment
  • Preferred Emergency management–related certifications or coursework
  • FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) training, such as ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, ICS-400, IS-700, and IS-800, or willingness to complete required ICS training within a defined timeframe

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and conducts general emergency preparedness and response training for personnel.
  • Leads emergency preparedness and response efforts and updates the Emergency Operations Plan(s) and supporting plans in assigned region.
  • Plans, conducts, and evaluates emergency drills and exercises across the system or within a specific region to test the Emergency Operations Plan to remain in a state of readiness.
  • Oversees the Campus Emergency Management Committee(s) in assigned region and participates as a member of the company's Emergency Management Committee.
  • Submits required reports for the Environment of Care committee.
  • Acts as a liaison with the department of health’s regional coordinator and local and state emergency management counterparts.
  • Completes and maintains documentation for all emergency management activities to meet Joint Commission standards.
  • Oversees the emergency management alert/notification system, emergency management supply inventory, and the emergency management trailer in assigned region.
  • Participates in planning and implementation of system-wide emergency management initiatives, and assists other regions within the company as needed.
  • Participates as a member of the Incident Management Team during disasters/emergencies.
  • Other related duties as required.
