Under the leadership of the Grants and Finance Section Chief, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Manager plays a critical role in supporting the mission of the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security (WOHS): 'Preparing Wyoming to respond to and recover from all hazards'. This position works collaboratively with the broader WOHS team to promote, manage, and support the NFIP across the state of Wyoming. The NFIP Manager contributes to the development of long-term program goals aligned with agency strategic plans and ensures the program remains compliant with all relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines.

  • Serves as the lead for the National Flood Insurance Program.
  • Acts as the agency's point of contact for FEMA on floodplain management and mapping activities, providing technical assistance to local floodplain managers, facilitating training courses regarding floodplain management and fielding general inquiries as needed.
  • Assists in local workshops on disaster assistance, disaster response, and recovery programs when needed after emergency or disaster events.
  • Supports the preliminary damage assessment process and the gathering of vital disaster data needed for a declaration request.
  • Serves as a member of the Hazard Mitigation Team in support of mitigation activities, grant applications and other mitigation related discussions.
  • Performs as duty officer per agency guidelines during periods when the State Response Coordination Center (SRCC) is open.
  • Stands ready for extended field deployment, sometimes in austere conditions.
  • Participates in exercises and assists as needed.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Emergency Preparedness) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Emergency Preparedness Specialist I, or 4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Emergency Preparedness) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Emergency Preparedness Specialist I.
  • Flood plain management or hydrologic background.
