JOB OVERVIEW • Job Title: Emergency Medicine Physician • Job Type: Locum Tenens • Location: Sioux City, IA • Service Setting: Inpatient • Coverage Type: Clinical Only • Coverage Period: March 1, 2026 – Ongoing COVERAGE DATES • Ongoing coverage beginning March 1, 2026 • Open-ended assignment based on coverage needs PATIENT INFORMATION • Patient Demographics: All ages • Patient Volume/Census: Approximately 30,000 annual ED visits • Admissions: Yes • Rounding: Included as part of emergency department coverage • Phone Consults: As required • Case Mix: Full-scope emergency medicine FACILITY INFORMATION • No. of Beds in Department: 484 licensed beds • Trauma Level: Level II • EMR System: Cerner • Office Equipment Available: Standard emergency department equipment • Specialty Backup Available: Hospitalist medicine program • Support Staff Available: 24-hour physician coverage and 30-hour NP/PA coverage • Reason for Coverage: Supplemental coverage PRIVILEGES & COMPLIANCE • Hospital Privileges Required: Yes • Telehealth Experience Required: No • In-Person EMR Training Required: Yes, prior to first shift • Privileges Required Prior to Training: Yes COMPENSATION & BENEFITS • Overtime: Daily OT after 12 hours and weekly OT after 168 hours, differential applied • Travel, Lodging, and Malpractice Insurance: Covered per locum agreement
Requirements
- Licenses: Active state medical license, CDS, and DEA with Iowa address required
- Board: Board Certified in ABEM, ABFM, or ABIM (or osteopathic equivalents)
- DEA: Active DEA required
- Certifications: ACLS, ATLS, and PALS required
- Experience: Residency trained in the specialty certified in
- Other Qualifications: CME documentation and case logs from the past two years required
- Emergency department procedures appropriate for physician-level emergency medicine coverage
- Hospital Privileges Required: Yes
- In-Person EMR Training Required: Yes, prior to first shift
- Privileges Required Prior to Training: Yes
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive emergency medical care for patients of all ages
- Manage acute and emergent conditions in a Level II trauma center
- Perform emergency procedures and coordinate admissions as required
- Collaborate with hospitalist medicine and consulting services
- Document all patient encounters accurately in Cerner EMR
