Hartford HealthCare's Pharmacy System has grown to include 8 inpatient pharmacies, 6 cancer center infusion pharmacies, 3 retail pharmacies, and our Ambulatory Care pharmacy department supporting more than 50 medical office practices. Collaboration between our numerous pharmacy services and other members of the health care team is key to our commitment to continually improving how we provide patient care. Pharmacists can advance their careers both within their positions via our career ladder as well as movement into specialized and leadership roles. In this critical role, you will provide direct clinical pharmacy services in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, ensuring optimal pharmacotherapeutic outcomes for emergency patients. The Emergency Medicine Pharmacist serves as a vital member of the multidisciplinary care team and is responsible for medication-related decision-making, real-time order verification, and support during emergency responses.

  • Provide real-time clinical pharmacy support during emergency resuscitations, including cardiac arrests, stroke alerts, and rapid sequence intubations.
  • Prepare and dispense emergency medications and guide nursing staff on safe and accurate administration.
  • Evaluate and verify medication orders for appropriateness, dosing, interactions, and therapeutic duplication.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of ED-specific medication protocols, guidelines, and order sets.
  • Monitor for and manage adverse drug events, medication errors, and drug interactions.
  • Serve as a drug information resource for ED clinicians regarding formulary agents, dosing, administration, and pharmacokinetics.
  • Precept pharmacy students during ED rotations.
  • Participate in hospital committees and quality improvement initiatives related to emergency care and medication safety.
  • PharmD degree from an accredited college of pharmacy or licensed Pharmacists prior to 2002 with Bachelor's degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
  • Completion of an ASHP approved pharmacy residency program or, three (3) years practicing pharmacist experience
  • Licensed as a registered Pharmacist in Connecticut or, eligible to receive licensure within 45 days Licensed as a registered Pharmacist in Connecticut or eligible to receive licensure within 45 days.
